This is a recently acquired, historically significant and highly collectible German Luger P08, manufactured in 1917 by the Erfurt Royal Arsenal during the height of World War I. This example is all-matching(serial 8125 j) on visible components, retains its original wartime finish, and includes a period-correct leather holster and wood-base WWI magazine.
The pistol shows no import marks, confirming it was brought into the United States prior to 1968, most likely as a veteran bringback from one of the world wars — a major plus for collectors. It stands as a rare, authentic piece of history with outstanding provenance potential.
This Luger P08 was produced at the Imperial Erfurt Arsenal, which supplied sidearms exclusively to the German military. The year 1917 marked a period of intense production to meet battlefield demands. Lugers in the later serial blocks like this “j” suffix are known to have served on the Western Front during WWI trench warfare.
The pistol’s lack of import markings strongly indicates it was brought back by a U.S. servicemember, rather than imported post-war through commercial dealers. That detail significantly increases its value and authenticity.
This pistol is chambered in 9mm Parabellum, also known as 9mm Luger — the two are identical cartridges. For best results and preservation of the firearm, standard-pressure 9mm FMJ is recommended. Avoid high-pressure modern +P loads.
This piece is ideal for:
Matching-number Lugers with original finish, correct accessories, and no import marks are becoming increasingly rare. This pistol is not just a firearm — it’s a historical artifact.
