Rare Smith & Wesson .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 -4th Change (Chambered in 38 Long Colt)
Rare Smith & Wesson .32-20 Hand Ejector Model of 1905 -4th Change (Chambered in 38 Long Colt)
This is a recently acquired double-action revolver built on the K frame with five screws. It has a pinned barrel with length of 3 1/4". It features a round butt frame with service sights and black diamond checkered inlayed hard rubber grips with S&W medallions. Changes from the 1905 3rd Change were primarily internal; heat treated cylinders began at approximately serial number 81287. It's fitted with a color cased, smooth trigger and checked hammer, round blade front sight, with a notch cut rear in the top strap. Barrel markings observed are "SMITH & WESSON" on the left side and "38 LONG CTG" on the right side. "Made in U.S.A." is stamped on the frame's right side and the S&W trademark is stamped on the left. Serial numbers range from 65701-144684 with 78,983 manufactured from 1915 - 1940. This one has a serial number of 495094 putting it in the 1927-1928 range. It's in overall good condition for its era with normal wear, patina and some scattered pitting. Pictures intensified the wear; it honestly looks better in person. These handguns were discontinued prior to World War II and have never resumed production. Smith & Wesson usually chambered these in 32-20 or .38 S&W Special, but this one in a rare factory-chambered .38 Long Colt, likely for a military contract for either the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps, or foreign military. To our knowledge, this revolver has not been modified. It's very likely to be all original and will make a great addition to any collection. Please see all pictures for accurate depiction of this revolver.
