Smith & Wesson .38 Military & Police "Victory" Model Revolver
This is a recently acquired Smith & Wesson Military & Police "Victory" model wartime revolver. It's built on the square butt K frame with five screws. It was named in hopes of a speedy "Victory" against the Axis powers in WWII and subsequently marked with a "V" serial prefix. It features a 4" pinned barrel, 6 shot fluted cylinder, sandblast Black Magic finish, smooth walnut grips and a lanyard ring. Its top strap is marked with "U.S. PROPERTY G.H.D" indicating that Guy H. Drewry (inspector from 1930-1957) inspected it. An accident with this model forced an important step for S&W concerning hammer blocks. A revolver was dropped on the deck of a U.S. Navy ship and accidentally discharged, killing a sailor. This prompted the introduction of the "slide action hammer block". Approximately 40,000 revolvers were sent back to S&W for modification. This revolver has a small s stamped on the crane and cylinder face, indicating it was modified for safety. There's no telling what all it has seen and been through, but it is sure to make for a great conversation piece and excellent addition to any collection.
